Thanksgiving is now behind us, which means the countdown to Christmas has begun, and with it, the elaborate Christmas lights in Dyker Heights are on display.
Starting on Monday night through the holidays, New Yorkers can see the beautiful lights from 11th Avenue to 13th avenues between 83rd and 86th streets in Brooklyn.
The Spata House is one of the main attractions in all of Dyker Heights and is known for starting the tradition of the lights in the neighborhood. Those who come can drive or walk through for free, or can buy tickets and be taken through the display by a tour guide.
The tradition began when one resident began decking out their house with over-the-top lights and decorations. Other houses in Dyker Heights followed suit, resulting in a yearly friendly competition amongst the neighborhood residents that turns the area into something of a winter wonderland.
The lights are on display every night from 4 p.m. through midnight all holiday season.
