Next time you use a Citi Bike to get around your neighborhood, get ready to pay more than before.

The price that riders pay by the minute has gone up by 20% starting this week. For annual members, that means an increase from 20 cents per minute to 24 cents per minute. For non-members, the increase is from 30 cents per minute to 36 cents per minute.

The cost change applies to both electric and regular Citi Bikes. Lyft, the current owner of Citi Bike, says it is raising the cost because of what they call “higher than anticipated” battery swapping, insurance and maintenance costs.

A report from the city comptroller showed that riders took 30 million Citi Bike trips in 2022.
