The City Council Land Use Committee has approved the Bruckner Boulevard rezoning plan that has been a hot-button topic for months in the Throgs Neck community. 

The group voted unanimously to approve the rezoning plan that aims to build affordable housing in the location that currently is a Super Foodtown.  

The proposal has been the center of heated debate in the community, with the local community board holding multiple public forums over the past few months where community members have voiced their disagreement with this project.  

Mayor Eric Adams says the project will create 349 affordable homes, including 168 of which are rent-regulated in an area that Adams says is in desperate need.  

Some community members are upset the project is going to bring an eight-story building to the neighborhood. 

The City Council is expected to vote on this plan on Oct. 12.
