City Council grills NYCHA officials over heating failures
New York City Housing Authority officials are under fire from members of City Council for leaving thousands of public housing tenants in the cold this winter.
City Council members took turns sounding off against the agency, grilling senior NYCHA staff over what led to the failure of its heating systems and boilers.
There was plenty of blame placed on the resources and funding that NYCHA gets. But that didn't satisfy many City Council members, who say that management ultimately needs to accept responsibility for the heating debacle.
Last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a $200 million investment to upgrade NYCHA's heating systems.
