? A City Council member plans to introduce legislation that would hold gun dealers and manufacturers accountable for violence on Bronx streets.
Council member David Yassky (D-Brooklyn) wants them to pay a $100,000 fine when illegal weapons are used in gun crimes. Yassky says the measure is needed, citing the recent slayings of two NYPD cops and other cases. He also wants dealers and manufacturers to be fined for selling more than one gun a month to the same person and for selling in places other than stores.
Critics of Yassky?s proposal say he is trying to get around a federal law that limits lawsuits against gun manufacturers.
