The Council’s Committee on Consumer and Worker Protection is scheduled to hold an oversight hearing on street vending enforcement and the issuance of vendor licenses.
The Committee will examine Local Law 18 of 2021, which issued 445 new permits each year for 10 consecutive years, in addition to the 853 that already existed. This was to address the long waitlist for permits. The Committee will look at the current administration’s approach to street vending enforcement as well as their challenges to implementing Local Law 18.
The Committee will also hear related legislation, including Introduction 431 by Council Member Pierena Sanchez. If passed, the law will lift the cap and increase the number of food vendor supervisory licenses and general vendor licenses available each year for five years.
