Mother's Day revelers who wanted to take their moms to City Island were delayed due to heavy traffic Sunday.

Cars slowly went along City Island Avenue to what seemed to be below the speed limit.

The line of cars extended as far back to the roundabout that splits off the avenue and the road that leads to Orchard Park.

Traffic was also formed on the southern end of the island, and street parking got full as many cars parked on the shoulders.

Residents said those who come to City Island should consider other travel options.

"I really wish there were just more traffic alternatives to get to City Island like a ferry. I wish more people would ride their bikes. We've got these beautiful new bike racks that would help ease up the traffic a bit," said Beverly Jones.
