City election officials say the first day of early voting saw nearly 17,000 check-ins, including 2,200 early voters in the Bronx and more than 4,800 voters in Brooklyn.
The polls are open again for early voting until 5 p.m.
This election, voters are ranking their choices instead of just choosing one candidate. If one candidate gets less than 50% of the vote, ranking kicks in. If a No. 1 pick is eliminated, then the second choice is used. That continues until there is a majority winner.
Early voting runs up through June 20. Primary Election Day is Tuesday, June 22.
