A local organization is partnered with the city to build bikes for healthcare workers.
The Mechanical Gardens is an organization that specializes in bike repairs and in educating people on how to maintain their own bikes.
It has partnered with New York City's Economic Development Corporation and Department of Transportation to properly put together 50 bikes donated by bicycle company Kent.
The bikes will be donated to frontline healthcare workers who could benefit from having this mode of transportation as an option.
Members of the group Fearless Flyers are taking part in the effort as well. The organization teaches LGBT youth cycling along with social and leadership skills. This project will also teach them repair skills as they continue to ride their bikes.
Organizers say donating bikes is important so healthcare workers don't have to buy their own, which can be very costly.
