At least 25 Administration for Children?s Services (ACS) daycare centers in the Bronx will soon lose funding and close their doors.
The city is replacing ACS daycare programs with programs run by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Officials also say transportation services will no longer be offered. The DYCD plans to convert the after school program into a smaller number of drop-in centers where teens and some college students will supervise children.
Some parents fear without transportation their children may encounter bullies and sex offenders while walking home. Other parents say replacing teachers with teenagers is also a bad idea. The changes are set to take place by September 8.
