The city?s Independent Budget Office (IBO) has recommended making parent coordinator positions part time at some smaller Bronx and city schools.
An IBO report says there are more than 1,300 parent coordinators throughout the city. According to the IBO, cutting the positions to part time would save the city $12.8 million. However, the city?s Department of Education says parent coordinator positions should remain full time.
According to a New York Post report, parent coordinators were introduced three years ago to serve as a liaison between parents and schools. Education officials say the position pays more than $35,000 a year. Critics of the IBO?s suggestion say parent coordinators play a vital role in the academic success of city schools.
