The city?s Department of Transportation (DOT) released a list of recommendations for improving truck traffic in the Bronx and city. However, the DOT must face a City Council committee about why it took so long to release its findings.
The DOT conducted a study of truck traffic in 2003. It studied 10 locations throughout the city, including the Port Morris section of the Bronx. Some of the results indicate neighborhoods need better signage, truck routing and roadway operation to improve truck accessibility.
As a result of the DOT study, some areas in the Bronx have been removed from the truck route system. Trucks have also been re-routed onto less residential streets.
