City mammography centers are closing at alarming rates, leaving Bronx women more at risk to battle breast cancer, according to a congressman's study.
Congressman Anthony Weiner's study found nearly 70 screening centers closed in the past eight years. As a result, the lawmaker claims women often wait more than five weeks for appointments and two months for their results.
Weiner says women are less likely to get tested if they run into problems at centers. He plans to introduce legislation to better fund the centers to keep them afloat.
The American Cancer Society recommends women over 40 get mammograms yearly.
