While is hard to put a price tag on mom, it's good to have an idea of what to brace for this year.
This year, on average nationally families are going to spend $245 on Mother's Day gifts. In our area, it's going to be a bit more - about $265.
So what are we spending on?
"Well clothes are the big one -- 6.5% higher than it was a year ago,” says Caleb Silver, of Investopedia. “If you want to get mom that nice sweater; flowers are up 5.8%. Postage, if you have to mail something to mom -- up 3.8% and jewelry up about 2.8%. So, prices mounting across the board, but she's worth it.”
News 12's Kristie Reeter checked out a New York City flower shop. Mary Cruz at M.C. Floral Event says flowers are costing more, and they try to not pass too much on to the customers. She says roses and lilies are a bit more expensive this year.
Some inexpensive options are carnations, daisies and pompoms.
Cruz also says that going for a combination of flowers lowers the cost - and still makes mom smile.
