A Co-op City mother is calling for better handicap access as she struggles to get her daughter in and out of their building.

Jaqueline Chambers says life at 140 Bellamy Loop is not easy for her and her daughter, who uses a wheelchair. She says it's hard to get in and out of the lobby of the building. Chambers says her troubles were made even harder one day when a United States Postal Service driver blocked a handicap ramp.

USPS officials tell News 12 that they will investigate the incident. They say all employees are expected to obey the law.

Chambers also wants the management company that handles Riverbay Cooperatives to make some changes. She says she often has to rely on neighbors to open the door for them, adding that having an automatic button at the front door would be a big help.

The management company tells News 12 that Riverbay has embarked on a $10 million capital project to upgrade all of Co-op City's 65 lobby entrances.
