As the 20th anniversary of September 11 approaches, the FDNY Uniformed Officers Association unveiled a special coin to commemorate those who lost their lives that day.
The tragedy took the lives of more than 300 New York City fire officers. The coin depicts the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the Shanksville Pennsylvania field - the sites where nearly 3,000 Americans perished in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The sales of the coin will go toward the Bravest Scholarship, which benefits the children, widows and families of the fallen firefighters.
To date, the fund has gifted 418 children with scholarships, totaling over $3.25 million in financial support.
