Souleymane Porgo -- the street vendor and father of four who survived a brutal gang assault at the hand of shoplifters -- may soon open a brick and mortar shop with the help of his community.
The African Advisory Council is pushing a fundraiser to help Porgo fulfill his goals.
"My dream is coming true," he says. "My community loves me. That's why I came back over here...And I love them back."
A storefront would be safer than a street-side stand, according to Mory Kouyate, chairman of the African Advisory Council.
"I think he's the bravest man that we know to get back on the street," says Marlyne Guevara.
