The Bronx River Alliance is sounding the alarm on illegal dumping in the river, specifically e-vehicles.
The group, which works to take care of 8 miles of the freshwater river, says it collects 400 e-vehicles from the river every year.
The vehicles are not only an eyesore for volunteers.
“We’re not still sure what exactly the impacts of these chemicals is on wildlife but also on the staff that are responding and getting into the water to remove these things,” said Christian Murphy, with Bronx River Alliance.
Murphy says the bikes they are recovering from the river are shared e-bike and e-scooters, like Citibike and Lime.
“We’re following the Parks Department's lead and they’ve cautioned our staff to leave these devices in the water,” said Murphy.
Bronx River Alliance is now asking those companies to help them clean out these devices from the river.
