Safety first is the message Con Edison is hoping to get across to its customers so they can weather the storms this summer.
The power company is advising everyone to have flashlights, batteries and battery-operated radios on hand at all times. If you do lose power, you should disconnect or turn off all electrical appliances so that circuits aren't overloaded when it's restored.
Officials are also reminding everyone that if strong winds knock trees into power lines, never touch the downed wires because they could still be live. You should instead steer clear and immediately report the situation to Con Ed.
Con Edison says it's constantly tracking the weather so that it's ready for conditions that can cause outages, and it wants all customers to be as prepared as possible too.
