Some Concourse residents say they are disgusted with the condition of a public staircase in their neighborhood.
The underpass stairwell at the intersection of Walton Avenue and East 161st Street is located between Yankee Stadium and a courthouse. Those who live in the area say its location hasn't helped the condition of the steps.
Residents say they've seen people urinate around the staircase and sometimes they have seen feces on the floor.
Steven Harrison, who lives in the neighborhood, says he contacted the Department of Sanitation and police when he noticed graffiti on the staircase. He says an officer told him that it is the responsibility of the city's Department of Transportation to clean the stairway once a month.
Harrison and other residents say they haven't seen much of a difference since then.
A spokesperson from the DOT told News 12 that "DOT is aware of community concerns at this location, which is scheduled for graffiti removal in the next few days. We are also reviewing the area for potential upgrades."
