A family in Concourse Village is asking for help after they say a pipe repair left even more damage to their home, leaving a giant hole in their bathroom.
Karin Decena says the hole has been there for a week when management came to fix the pipes. Since then, she says rodents and roaches have invited themselves into their home.
"The rats have been living here basically,” said Decena.
She says water from the previous pipe leak has damaged their bedroom walls and floors. The family of three has been sleeping in the living room, but due to the pests, Decena says they can barely get any sleep.
Decena says they’ve heard no updates from management on when the damages will be fixed. They say they’ve also filed several complaints with 311 and the Department of Buildings.
News 12 has reached out to the management company, Living Emeral, and has not heard back yet.
The DOB responded with a statement saying, “During our inspection, we found that repairs associated with the water leak and repairs to the kitchen ceiling had started. We did not find any conditions in the apartment unit that were in violation of the NYC Construction Codes, and no violations were issued during this inspection. Our colleagues at HPD have conducted their own recent inspections of the apartment unit, and they would have information about actions they took related to their enforcement of the NYC Housing Maintenance Code.”
