A fire tore through part of a building at 1166 Grand Concourse on Tuesday afternoon, forcing residents into the street as they tried to escape the flames, according to the FDNY.

Fire officials said two people are in serious condition. Eight others suffered minor injuries, including one firefighter.

The FDNY said crews were called just after 3 p.m. for a fire on the third floor of the building. It took firefighters just under an hour to bring the blaze under control.

When firefighters arrived, the entire building had been evacuated. Hours later, residents began returning to find blackened walls, shattered glass and the heavy smell of smoke lingering in the air.

Neighbors could be seen hugging and consoling one another as they assessed the damage.

The Red Cross has arrived on scene and is assisting displaced families.
