Police say a miscommunication between providers led to a minibus mishap in Ronkonkoma.
The Connetquot Central School District sent a statement to parents Monday saying a minibus approached three middle school students at their bus stop in Ronkonkoma.
The incident reportedly happened at 7:15 a.m. on Baeck Street when a male driver asked for one student by name and requested they get on the bus. He told them they would get to school faster if they went with him.
Officials say the students did not recognize the driver or the bus so they refused and the man drove away. A few minutes later, the students' assigned district bus picked them up and drove them to school.
The Connetquot School District released a statement this morning saying in part, "It has been concluded that yesterday’s event was the result of a miscommunication between transportation providers regarding individual bus routes."
The district says it is thankful the incident did not pose any danger to the safety or security of the school community.
