A 25-year-old man is facing charges, accused of killing a construction worker from The Bronx during a hit-and-run Friday morning in Queens, according to police.

Police say Isabel Alvarez, 44, was standing in a safety zone between the exit ramp and the eastbound lanes of the Nassau Expressway when a car struck her.

The driver accused of leaving the scene was later identified as Daveanand Budhai after officers located him near South Conduit Avenue and 134th Street.

State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez released the following statement:

"There is nothing more important to me than the safety of the workers who are out there every day...Our thoughts now are with our fallen colleague."
