After a series of City Council hearings on Mayor Bloomberg?s proposed budget, Council Speaker Christine Quinn has come up with some proposals of her own.

According to the New York Times, Quinn is calling for three initiatives to improve services for abused or neglected children in the city. Quinn reportedly wants to set aside $6 million to provide more staff workers at child advocacy centers. She also wants to set aside $1.5 million to keep the centers open longer. Quinn is also proposing to spend approximately $3 million to allow district attorney?s offices to hire child safety advocates.

In addition to improving child safety services, Quinn would like to see money set aside to give police officers improved bulletproof vests. The Council and Bloomberg must negotiate a final budget that will be adopted in June.
