Democrat Carlos Menchaca is hoping his experience as a city councilman will get him elected as mayor of New York City.
The Brooklyn councilmember has serviced since 2014. If elected, he would be the first Latino mayor and first openly gay mayor in the city's history.
Menchaca believes his passion and experience make him the best choice to lead the city.
"We need someone who understands government. I have seven years as city councilmember - I have the experience. But I also have the passion and the energy to confront this with all of you and to bring your ideas into spaces that have never heard your ideas," said Menchaca.
