5h agoA councilmember is aiming to keep New Yorkers safe by requiring the Department of Transportation to report data on e-bikes and e-scooters.
Councilmember Marjorie Velazquez wants the DOT to release the data after this year alone, there have been 51 people that have died from traffic crashes with over 1,100 injured according to Vision Zero.
“This data, what we're going to track in this reporting that is going to happen,” said Velazquez. “It's to make sure that when crashes happen, when e-scooters or e-bikes, motorized vehicles that are on the sidewalks and streets are happening that we have a way to track it back into our communities.”
Velazquez added it’s crucial that this data is tracked through the dot which will provide solutions in various areas protecting delivery workers using third party apps, consumers and community members.
“The bill efforts annual reports on the use of electric bikes and scooters, the number of moving violation summonses issued, the number of traffic crashes along with the number of traffic related fatalities and injuries with contributing human factors involved in the crash,” she added.
