On Tuesday, an ambulette collided with a delivery truck at the intersection of Pelham Parkway and Williamsbridge Road.

The collision was so strong, the truck flipped on its side.

The intersection is notorious for drivers speeding and running red lights.

According to Vision Zero data, the intersection has been a hot spot for accidents.

Data shows at least 48 accidents since 2022 that injured motorists, three crashes that injured pedestrians and one crash that was fatal.

Commuters in the area told News 12 drivers are constantly driving recklessly.

"They use this intersection to race and that's why there's so many accidents. Plus, people go through the red light because it takes so long to change," said Denise, a Bronx commuter.

In 2023, the Department of Transportation completed its Pelham Parkway Reconstruction Plan. The project took six years to complete and cost the city $129 million. The project revamped Pelham Parkway, adding new safety features, including new guard rails, accessible pedestrian ramp upgrades, a new bus lane and more.

The project also implemented Leading Pedestrian Intervals, technology giving pedestrians a head start to cross the street before the traffic light turns green for drivers.

Commuters told News 12 that even though the project for the intersection was completed two years ago, it remains unsafe.

News 12 reached out to the DOT about any new or upcoming safety upgrades to the parkway, and is still awaiting a response.
