Woman severely injured in crash that shut down westbound Sunrise Highway in North Bellport

Police say Waldina Sanchez lost control of her vehicle and hit the median near Station Road.

A 59-year-old woman was injured in a crash on Sunrise Highway in North Bellport.

The crash happened westbound at Exit 56 around 5:30 a.m.

Police say Waldina Sanchez lost control of her vehicle and hit the median near Station Road.

When Sanchez tried to return to the road, her vehicle struck another woman's Silverado.

Sanchez was taken to Stony Brook Hospital in serious condition.

The 70-year-old woman in the Silverado had minor injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check.
