It was demolition day in Port Jefferson as construction crews knocked down a former bar that was just steps from the train station.
The former Bahia Bar & Discotec is no more. In its place will be a new mixed-use site with 45 units of housing and more than 3,000 square-feet of ground floor commercial space.
"We're finally out of the planning process and into the building process, revitalizing our train station building, affordable safe housing so we can keep our young people and elders on Long Island," says Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant.
Mayor Garant says the affordable housing units will be given out by a lottery system.
