An abandoned building in Belmont possibly brought down by intense winds Wednesday night has been demolished.
The remaining husk of the building -- located at 183rd Street and Beaumont Avenue -- was knocked down Thursday night. Crews are expected to return Friday to clear the debris.
Resident Lydia Segarra, who lives next door, says FDNY officials asked her to temporarily leave her house while they worked to clear the property when the building collapsed around 10:30 p.m. Segarra says she spent the night outside in her car while her husband went to work.
The home, with no floors or roof and an exposed interior, was the scene of a fire on Beaumont Avenue nearly a decade ago. It was subsequently ruled unlivable by the city. Segarra says it was only a matter of time before it came down.
The Red Cross is assisting eight people who live next door to the property.
