To mark the 25th anniversary of Notorious B.I.G.'s death, a Crown Heights bakery unveiled its latest creation -- the "Biggie" cookie.
Cake Boi's sugar cookie is one way of sharing the Brooklyn-born rapper's message of "spread love."
"It's very important for our youth, our young males to see that Biggie came from our neighborhoods and made it through," says Kelli Ayers, owner of Cake Boi. "My son has lots of respect for him, for Biggie - who paved the way, and he's just honoring him.
Ayers tells News 12 the shop started the tradition six years ago at the opening of the Bed-Stuy location. Shoppers line up year after year to get a piece of the commemorative cookie.
There were also two murals unveiled Wednesday at Fine Care Pharmacy in honor of the rapper. The murals were painted at the intersection known as Christopher Notorious B.I.G. Wallace Way. Elected officials joined Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams for the unveiling. Lil Cease, who was mentored by the late rapper, was also on hand.
"We going to honor B.I.G. for life," said Lil Cease. "You all know what he did for this neighborhood, did for the culture of music. Took care of young cats like myself, Junior Mafia. Took some young kids off the street that was headed towards the wrong road."
