Gov. Andrew Cuomo is asking for Long Island Rail Road fares to be reduced for commuters during major renovation work at Penn Station this summer.
Cuomo made the announcement during a press conference at the station.
The governor says he will ask the MTA to lower fares for commuters who end up diverted during the weeks-long project.
The MTA has estimated about 10,000 people will face diverted or canceled trains during the work at Penn Station.
Amtrak is scheduled to spend eight weeks fixing equipment inside the station beginning in July.
