New York City is set to begin Phase 1 of reopening Monday after several months of being shut down under coronavirus restrictions.
Industries allowed to open during Phase 1 include construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing, hunting, retail, manufacturing and wholesale trade.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says social distancing precautions must remain in place, specifically for nonessential retail stores. That means stores can only offer curbside or in-store pickup.
Shoppers will not yet be allowed to browse around stores.
The state has set guidelines for reopening for businesses like physical distancing between people, the use of personal protective equipment by workers and proper cleaning and disinfecting.
Cuomo says New York residents should not let their guards down even as reopening begins.
The city is deploying more than a million masks and 25,000 gallons of hand sanitizer to the MTA as more people are expected back on public transit.
