A group of dads came together on Sunday at Prospect Avenue to celebrate Father’s Day, Juneteenth and reframe the narrative around Black fatherhood.
Sean Williams is the founder of “Dad Gang” – a social media group that works to break down the stereotype that Black dads are not active in their kids’ lives.
“Black fathers are here, we're amazing, we're taking care of our kids, we're intentional,” says Williams. “The narrative that Black dads aren't around affected our community in so many negative ways.”
This is also the first time the group joined forces with the city’s official Juneteenth celebration.
The group has reached over 150,000 followers on Instagram, uniting Black dads across the country both online and in-person.
