Access to a parking garage at Danbury Hospital was briefly closed Thursday morning after a suspicious package was discovered, police say.

Police received a call from hospital security at 2:46 a.m. that there was a suspicious package in the Rizzo parking garage, which is located just outside the hospital's emergency department.

Following an investigation, the package was deemed safe and the garage reopened around 10:30 a.m. Police say they do not know what is inside the package.

Officials say the hospital was never shut down during the incident and there was no impact on patient care or hospital operations.

The incident is under investigation.

Broadview Middle School, which is located next to the hospital, was closed Thursday. Hospital Avenue was also closed between Tamarac Avenue and Sixth Street but has reopened.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 203-797-4662.
