With the sanctions on Russia, gas prices could be impacted. In this week's Deep Dive, News 12's Kristie Reeter takes a look at the increases New Yorkers have already been dealing with.

In a poll, News 12 asked people how they save money on gas. Most Long Island viewers say they use apps to check prices. In the Bronx and Brooklyn, there was a tie between apps and loyalty reward cards. About 45% of Westchester viewers say they are tapping into those rewards cards too.

Caleb Silver with Investopedia says gas prices in New York have surpassed the national average in some areas.

“Gas prices in the New York area are $3.69 on average. The national average closer to $3.53, but just a year ago gas prices were $2.64 because we weren't driving around,” Silver says. “But you are feeling it and you are probably going to feel higher prices as we head closer to the spring and summer."

Silver also says some people may be changing up their commute.

“Mobility was already restricted because we are not fully back to work. Maybe some folks aren't fully going back to school or back to their jobs, but when we look across the major counties of New York, we still see that happening,” Silver says. “Suffolk and Westchester counties are down by 15.5%, Nassau County is down 18.6% and the New York City area is down 27.7%.”
