A man was fatally shot on a train at the Ronkonkoma train station early Wednesday.
Police say Yousef Staine was shot by a man he appeared to be traveling with while he was on board a westbound train stopped at the Ronkonkoma Long Island Rail Road Station around 1:45 a.m.
The man fled the scene following the shooting.
Staine, 20, of West Babylon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pamela Usher, Staine's mother, did not speak on camera but told News 12, "He was killed, and we need the person who did it to come forward.""
The shooting appears to be an isolated incident. No one else was injured.
Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer says there were only two or other three passengers on the train at the time, and they were not in danger.
"It doesn't appear to have any connection to any other incidents in the past," Beyrer says.
The north side of Railroad Avenue and the north parking lot is closed for the investigation. Customers at the Ronkonkoma station must board and exit trains from Track 2 or Platform C.
Centereach resident Brandon Augustin says he was boarding the train to work at Ronkonkoma when he walked into a crime scene.
"I look to my left and I see the gentleman lying there on the floor on the train," Augustin said.
He said he was trying to absorb everybody's reactions and make sense of what was going on.
No arrests have been made, and police have not released information on the suspect
Detectives are asking anyone with information on this shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
