Westport marked a transition in leadership Monday night as Democrat Kevin Christie was sworn in as the town's first selectman. The ceremony, held at Town Hall, drew residents, town officials and community leaders like Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

The largest voter turnout since 2001, Christie succeeds Republican Jen Tooker's leadership and quickly became involved in Westport politics when his family moved to the town in 2018.

Christie served on the Coleytown Elementary School PTA board and was elected to chair the policy committee with the Board of Education. Before entering public service, he spent more than 15 years working in finance, investment banking and corporate strategy with companies like IBM, Merrill Lynch and the Madison Square Garden Company.

Amy Wistreich, Christie's running mate was sworn in along with him and they focused their campaign efforts on financial discipline for the town's budget, strengthening support around local business and addressing the town's infrastructure issues, like flooding and housing challenges.

Christie showed gratitude to all of his supporters and made a commitment to focus on "clear vision, collaborative planning and execute it," during his leadership and partnership with the town.
