Elected officials and Brooklyn residents gathered Sunday for the opening of Deno's Wonder Wheel in Coney Island.
The opening also consisted of the traditional blessing of the rides to start the 2022 season.
Coney Island has been home to family entertainment since its very first roller coaster opened in 1884, serving over 5 million people a year.
"Baseball is starting, Coney is opening, it is the sign that summer is almost here, the city is back, and we are on our way to a great recovery," said New York City Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue.
"I love amusement parks big time, and I've been here many, many times with my son, daughter and wife many times," said Brooklyn Council Member Ari Kagan.
In honor of its 102nd season, the first 102 people received a free ride on Deno's Wonder Wheel.
Despite the chilly weather, visitors said the opening of Wonder Wheel gets them pumped for summer and they can't wait for warmer weather.
