Bronx native Sammy Mejia says he?s excited about the opportunity to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA.
He was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 2007 draft.
Mejia is one of only two DePaul players to achieve 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists in their collegiate careers.
Mejia says he had a feeling he would end up in Detroit after a successful tryout. Only first-round draft picks have guaranteed NBA contracts, so Mejia will have to prove to Detroit that he is ready to play.
Another DePaul player, Wilson Chandler, was taken in the draft by the New York Knicks with the 23rd pick.
