The New York Department of Correction unveiled Wednesday its new compliance and safety center at Rikers Island.
Officials say new center will help the department stay on track with the most up-to-date practices in jail reform.
The emergency operations center is a room filled with camera monitors, giving staff access to the roughly 10,000 cameras at the jail.
Officials say they'll staff that room as needed but will also have employees in a new compliance and video monitoring unit, where officers can see and react to multiple incidents across the jail.
They can also monitor if posts are properly staffed and review cases involving use of force.
In total, the centers have a total of 38 monitors.
