More than a dozen Parkchester families displaced by a fire three weeks ago say they've still been unable to return home and see what they can salvage.
The fire spread from a Commonwealth Avenue furniture store on Jan. 2 and damaged their building. Fire officials say it remains unstable and unsafe for people to return to.
The tenants say they thought they would have been allowed back into their apartments by now. But they left Wednesday morning empty-handed.
Some have raised concerns that the longer they are prevented from returning, the more time burglars will have to loot their homes.
The FDNY has not given a timetable on when it and the Department of Buildings will deem the structure safe.
