Chancellor David Banks closed day one of the new school year out at Eagle Academy.
Banks spoke with young men of color at the academy about their hopes for the future and what they would like to see in their educational journey.
“A couple things they said that people might find surprising is making sure that schools have the kinds of rules in place that will make sure kids have a level of structure that they need,” said Banks.
The new school year comes with a lot of excitement as students head back into the classroom, as well as some concerns of recent issues, such as violence in city schools and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Department of Education unveiled a plan to reimagine school safety and culture, with additional safety agents, enhanced training and a citywide safety assessment.
