The Department of Education announced Monday its proposal to close a slew of New York City schools, including two in Brooklyn.
News 12 has learned that Brooklyn Collegiate and the Eubie Blake School are slated for closure, while mergers are planned for four Brooklyn schools.
The East Flatbush Community and Research School is proposed to merge with the Middle School of Marketing and Legal studies, and the middle school grades of the Gregory Jocko Jackson School is proposed to merge with the Brownsville Collaborative Middle School.
Meanwhile, six Brooklyn schools are being designated as “rise schools” after going through a renewal program that resulted in steady gains across multiple measures, including graduation rates and state test scores.
The panel for educational policy will vote on the proposed closures on Feb 28. and the mergers on March 21.
