DOJ: 3 charged in attempted murder-for-hire plot against President-elect Donald Trump

The mission was to avenge the death of an Iranian leader who was killed by a U.S. drone strike in 2020 under the Trump administration.

The Department of Justice says three people have been charged after they say Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps tried to carry out an assassination plot against President-elect Donald Trump.
The mission was to avenge the death of an Iranian leader who was killed by a U.S. drone strike in 2020 under the Trump administration.
Farhad Shakeri, of Iran, Carlisle Rivera, of Brooklyn, and Jonathan Loadholt, of Staten Island, now face serious charges including, conspiracy to commit murder for hire, conspiring to provide material to support a foreign terrorist organization among several other charges.
In a statement to News 12, Trump's campaign says, "President-Elect Trump is aware of the attempted assassination plot by the Iranian terrorist regime. Nothing will deter President Trump from returning to the White House and restoring peace around the world."
Meanwhile, the U.S. Attorney's Office says the goal now is to ensure the safety of all Americans from any possible threat.
