More money is coming to the city's off-hours delivery program to help manage truck deliveries, according to city officials.

The Department of Transportation announced an additional $6 million for the delivery incentive program. They say it will help shift deliveries from peak hours to overnight and evenings.

Officials say about 90% of goods are moved by trucks through the city, and this creates issues with parking, adds to congestion, increases carbon emissions and poses a safety risk for pedestrians. They say the funds could especially help small businesses.

At the moment, 1,120 locations are participating in the program. DOT officials say the goal is to have 5,000 participating by 2040.
