The Department of Transportation has announced multimillion-dollar makeovers for three New York City bridges.
The $49 million design improvement project is set to rehabilitate the Randall Avenue Bridge in the Bronx, Lefferts Boulevard over South Conduit Avenue in Queens and the 86th Street Bridge over the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn.
The project will also include the resurfacing of each bridge’s pavement, and bridge lighting above and below the decks will be upgraded.
Sources say construction work on the bridges will be done in stages to reduce congestion during peak hours.
News 12 has also learned that DOT officials plan to use a design-build method, which involves using one company for both design and construction, so that the rehabilitation on all three spans will be completed more quickly.
Improvements on all three bridges are expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
