A down utility pole in White Plains left residents without power and prompted officials to shut down a portion of the road on Sunday afternoon, according to the City of White Plains and Con Edison.

The city says the pole broke following an apparent transformation explosion. It happened at Central and Battle avenues and left live power lines on the road.

Officials say they halted northbound traffic near the downed pole and advised residents to avoid the area.

White Plains Public Safety and Con Edison responded to the scene, according to the city.

About 158 Con Edison customers are without power, according to the company's outage map as of Sunday night.

An estimated time of restoration was not immediately known.
