Six adults and six children were displaced after a two-alarm fire ripped through a multi-family home in Peekskill.
Fire officials responded to 1017 Orchard Street where flames broke out just after 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Officials say some goldfish and a pair of pet turtles were rescued. A pet cat did not survive.
"The crews while en route could see smoke and heavy fire in the rear of the structure,” says Jim Seymour, the chief of Peekskill Fire Department.
News 12 was told that the Red Cross is currently helping with temporary shelter.
